Privacy policy
This policy covers the Rovelle app and rovelle.app. If anything here is unclear, email hello@rovelle.app.
The short version: we collect what we need to turn videos into recipes and keep your cookbook in sync. We don't sell your data, show ads or track you across other apps.
What we collect
- Account details. Your phone number if you sign in with a code, or the name and email Apple or Google give us (Apple may give a private relay address). A device ID, and a push token if you allow notifications.
- Your cookbook. The recipes you save and edit, their versions, collections, notes and kitchen items.
- What you import. Video links you paste, and screenshots or videos you upload.
- What you ask Pan. The words you type or say to Pan. Your voice stays on your phone; only the words are sent.
- Purchases. Whether you have Pro, from Apple or Google. We never see your card details.
- Diagnostics. Crash and performance reports, and your IP address, which we use to keep the service secure.
The waitlist
When you join the waitlist on rovelle.app, we keep exactly these:
- your email address
- whether you joined as a cook or a creator, and for creators, your handle and platform
- which form you used, your browser language, and your country (from your connection, or else your language setting)
- any campaign tags (utm) in the link you came from
- whether the address is a throwaway one
- when you joined, where you are in the invite process, and when you confirmed, if we asked you to
- once you sign in to the app, a link from your entry to your account
- a hash of your IP address and one of your browser, made with a salt that changes every day and is deleted after 48 hours; after that, they can't be linked back to you
We send one email when you join. If you're in the EU, EEA or UK, that email asks you to confirm, and we don't invite anyone who hasn't. We send one more email when your invite is ready.
We keep your entry until 12 months after launch. If our emails to you bounce, we delete it after 30 days. If you unsubscribe, we delete it at once, along with any invite code you haven't used.
How we use it
- To sign you in, turn videos into recipes, and keep your cookbook in sync across devices.
- To keep Rovelle secure: rate limits, abuse and fraud checks.
- To fix crashes and slow screens.
- To manage your subscription.
AI providers
To write a recipe, we send the video's transcript, caption and frames to AI providers. We never send your name, phone number or email with them.
When you ask Pan something, we send what you said or typed and the recipe you're cooking. The app names the providers and asks you first, and you can turn Pan off in Settings at any time. Where a provider offers a zero-retention option, we use it.
Sharing your imports with other cooks
Recipes you import from public videos can be suggested to other cooks, with the creator's credit. Only public videos are shared, never your edits; uploads, screenshots and pasted text never are. This is on by default. Turn it off for everything in Settings under "Share my imports with other cooks", or for a single recipe.
Who else sees your data
- People you share a recipe with. Anyone with the link sees that recipe, your display name and the creator's credit. When you stop sharing, the link stops working.
- Service providers that run Rovelle for us: cloud hosting, Cloudflare (network and security), Resend (email), Sentry (crash reports), AI providers, the SMS or WhatsApp service that delivers sign-in codes, and Apple and Google (sign-in, purchases and notifications). They may use your data only to provide their service to us.
- The law. We disclose data when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Your account and cookbook: until you delete your account, then gone within 30 days.
- What you ask Pan: 30 days.
- Uploaded screenshots and videos: 7 days after the import finishes, or 24 hours if you never import them.
- Data exports: 7 days.
- Video audio: 30 days. Transcripts and frames of public videos are kept, because they aren't linked to you.
Export or delete your data
- Export: in the app, go to Settings, then Export my data. We'll notify you when your file is ready.
- Delete: in the app, go to Settings, then Delete account, and type DELETE. You're signed out at once, and your account is deleted within 30 days. If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke Rovelle's access to your Apple ID. Cancel Pro in the App Store or Google Play; deleting your account doesn't cancel it.
- No app? Email hello@rovelle.app from the email on your account, or tell us the phone number you signed in with. We'll check it's you, then delete the account within 30 days.
You can also email us to see, correct or delete anything we hold about you, including your waitlist entry.
Security
All traffic is encrypted in transit. Your most sensitive personal notes are encrypted with a key of their own, which we destroy when you delete your account.
Changes
When this policy changes, we update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your data, we'll tell you in the app first.
